My Research Interests

I am interested in addressing different aspects regarding the formation and the impacts of toxigenic algal blooms (HAB) and the presence of phycotoxins on the ecosystem, contributing to understanding the ecological variables that trigger such toxic blooms, which are to date poorly understood in the Beagle Channel.

My Objectives in CoastCarb

As a participant in WP4, I am involved in the task T 4.3, related to the characterization of phytoplankton communities (taxonomical composition, with emphasis on HAB detection) as well as the identification and quantification of hydro- and lipophilic toxins content in the water column of Antarctic and Subantarctic seas. Molecular analyses of phytoplankton toxic strains and measure of toxins content in samples from Beagle Channel and cultures will be done at AWI.
