The SCAR – Conference 2024, themed “Antarctica in a Changing World,” emphasized the continent’s critical role in the context of global climate change and sustainability.

The program included a variety of sessions, such as oral presentations, panel discussions, interactive workshops, and poster sessions, covering a wide range of topics, including biodiversity, climate change, and conservation.

The SCAR Open Science Conference is a key event for advancing Antarctic research, as it promotes interdisciplinary collaboration and knowledge exchange among scientists from around the world. This event not only allows for the presentation of innovative research but also encourages discussion on current and future challenges in the region.

This year, the event took place in Pucón, Chile, a charming town in the southern part of the country known for its unique natural environment. Local features, such as the proximity to the volcano, added significant value to the participants’ experience. From a learning perspective, the conference provided me with a broader perspective on conservation efforts and emerging technologies in Antarctic research. Additionally, it highlighted the complexity of managing these issues in this continent and the urgency and necessity for international collaborations to address complex problems related to the environment and sustainability in the region.
