Three for one, and one for three: Germany, Belgium and Poland!!
Splitting secondment for publishing and science communication
CoastCarb relaunched, offering opportunities for researcher exchange among institutions. Training, research, and science communication form the pillars of my scientific career. Three tasks, one secondment. From Córdoba, Argentina (IDEA-CONICET), I traveled to Bremerhaven, Germany (AWI).
In the meantime, from the launch to the re-launch, I remained actively involved with CoastCarb. I participated in organizing the Kick-off Meeting in Bremerhaven (2020, WP6), documented online Core Team meetings (2020 and 2021), and presented at the online WP4 Workshops (2020) and Punta Arenas Assembly (2022). Additionally, I contributed to the Data Management Plan (Task 1.4) in August 2022. Returning to Bremerhaven after three years was a mix of fascination, nostalgia, and gratitude.
During my secondment at AWI, I focused on integrating environment Antarctic knowledge and benthic species distribution based on climate niches (Task 1.2 & 2.3). Collaborating with Dr. Kerstin Jerosch and Hendrik Pehlke, we prepared a publication on benthic fauna distribution. This secondment facilitated cultural exchanges meeting old friends, and networking, including science communication projects. With Andrea (IDEAL, Chile), we developed #CienciaEn30segundos mini-videos sharing the knowledge about the Antarctic and Subantarctic ecosystem (Task 6.1 & 6.5). And with researchers from the HIFMB, Oldenburg, we developped a storytelling workshop and Training remains crucial throughout one’s career.
I was able to participate and give Workshops. We divided my secondment, allowing me to travel to other countries, Belgium and Poland. I attended the WP4 Workshop about species interactions at the University of Ghent. Further, collaborating and reinforcing the network, I gave a seminar on Antarctic benthos and their responses to climate change at IOPAN, invited by Dr. Piotr Bałazy and Dr. Maria Włodarska-Kowalczuk. Meeting researchers like Lech Kotwicki who also writes scientific fairytales, was inspiring!
The opportunity to develop and share science with excellent researchers was invaluable. Three for one and one for three. Together, we build science.
